TRIGGER WARNING: DISCUSSION & IMAGERY OF PHYSICAL TORTURE
Abu Ghraib: The outcome is a speculative installation. The subject matter was given, not chosen, but it resonated with me
because it is part of my Middle Eastern history so I felt like I was an appropriate voice to explore the photographs themselves, rather than take inspiration from the subject matter. Similarly to The Collective, I explored abstracted re-creation of a real life event/biographical lived experience of someone else. This time I wanted to focus on removing the performer and re-visit my background in spatial design to make the space a living & breathing performer. I was also enquiring how to create a performance with the designer as the lead artist.
